Early this morning Dr. Martin Salia died here in Omaha Nebraska. Dr. Salia was the second casualty from Ebola on American soil. The reason this doctor (and many of the others as well) are putting themselves in harm’s way is because they feel called by God to do so.

Objectivity confines God to a box that He did not create. It limits God to simple-minded systems and concepts that He destroys. In religious belief as elsewhere, we must take our chances, recognizing that we could be wrong, dreadfully wrong. There are no guarantees; the religious life is a venture; foolish and debilitating error is a permanent possibility. (If we can be wrong, however, we can also be right.)
